Dalton Public Schools is proud to announce Brittany Hendon as the Brookwood School Teacher of the Year. This marks the second time Hendon has received this honor, having also been recognized in 2017.
Hendon, a dedicated educator with 13 years of experience, was inspired to pursue teaching by the impactful educators in her own life.
"A desire to make a positive difference in the lives of children led me to pursue a career in teaching," Hendon shared. "I was constantly influenced by educators who cared for me and pushed me to not only succeed, but to excel."
For Hendon, teaching is about more than academicsβitβs about shaping confident, compassionate learners.
"Perhaps my greatest accomplishment is fostering a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom walls," she said. "I take pride in creating a safe and stimulating environment where students feel empowered to explore, ask questions, and discover the joy of lifelong learning."
At Brookwood, Hendon works closely with the Educational Support Services team (ESS) to tailor instruction to individual student needs, ensuring that all learners feel supported and challenged. She believes in seeing students as more than just their academic achievements.
"Effective teaching hinges on a fundamental truth: each student is a unique puzzle," she explained. "To truly understand and reach a student, a teacher must recognize the value of each piece that makes up that student, not just the academic pieces."
Outside of the classroom, Hendon extends her passion for education into the community. She volunteers with Vacation Bible School, supports youth recreation programs, and partners with local organizations to bring hands-on STEM learning opportunities to schools.
"My goal is to contribute to a vibrant and thriving community where everyone feels empowered to learn, grow, and play," she said.
Dalton Public Schools is proud to recognize Hendon's dedication and the impact she makes on her students and the broader community. Her passion for fostering lifelong learners and creating an inclusive, engaging classroom makes her a deserving recipient of this honor.
