Amber Dean Named Dalton High School Teacher of the Year

Dalton Public Schools is proud to announce Amber Dean as the Dalton High School Teacher of the Year. A dedicated educator, Dean teaches Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Modern Dance while also serving as an award-winning color guard and winter guard director.

Dean’s passion for teaching began in childhood, when she would gather her stuffed animals and β€œplay school.” Inspired by her own teachers, she pursued a career in education to provide students with the same encouragement and support that shaped her own academic journey.

β€œI decided at that moment I would be a teacher where students were comfortable coming to for help or advice. I would encourage them while challenging them to strive for continuous improvement and push past their barriers,” she shared.

Believing that relationships are the foundation of effective teaching, Dean fosters an environment where students feel safe asking questions and making mistakes.

β€œI relate to their struggles and create environments where they feel comfortable. My students tell me how appreciative they are of this, and I am extremely proud of that.”

In addition to her work in the classroom, Dean dedicates significant time to Dalton High School’s color guard and winter guard programs. As a former world-class performer, she brings expertise and mentorship to her students, using the activity as an outlet for personal growth and stress management.

β€œMore than I want to teach them to be excellent in guard, I want to teach them how to be respectful, display integrity, and work diligently no matter the obstacles presented,” she said.

Beyond school, Dean is an active member of her church, where she oversees social media, manages technical support, and assists with children’s programs.

Dalton Public Schools congratulates Amber Dean on this well-deserved recognition and celebrates her dedication to student success.
