Remember to wear your bright, colorful, and mismatched socks on Friday, March 20 in honor of World Down Syndrome Day and the Lots of Socks recognition!

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated globally each year on March 21 (3/21). The date represents Trisomy 21, the genetic condition that causes Down syndrome, where individuals have three copies of the 21st chromosome instead of two.
Since March 21 falls on a Saturday this year, PAWZ would love for our school to celebrate on Friday, March 20 by participating in the “Lots of Socks” tradition. Students and staff are encouraged to wear bright, colorful, or mismatched socks to celebrate differences and show support for individuals with Down syndrome.

The reason socks are used is because chromosomes can resemble the shape of socks. The extra chromosome in Trisomy 21 is represented by wearing fun or mismatched socks to spark conversations and raise awareness.

Celebrating this day helps promote inclusion, understanding, and appreciation for the abilities and uniqueness of all students. One of our own City Park family members is featured on the graphic below.

Thank you for helping celebrate and support such a wonderful community of learners. Please contact Ms. Chesni Collins for more information or to share your photos at chesni.collins@dalton.k12.ga.us

Every April, we PAWS to appreciate the sacred time of childhood. Childhood happens once.  Sometimes, childhood needs protecting.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. We are selling pinwheels in support of our local Family Support Council.  They have many programs that help provide healthy childhoods to our community while preventing child abuse.

For $1 a student can purchase a pinwheel and participate in a ceremony to decorate our school lawn as a symbol and reminder that “EVERY CHILD HAS A RIGHT TO A SAFE AND HAPPY CHILDHOOD.”

Forms have been sent home with students; please return money to your child's homeroom teacher.  All forms and money are due by March 27.

The pinwheels will stay outside during the month of April in support of Child Abuse Prevention month.

Friday the 13th was a day to remember at the CP! Today, we welcomed PAWS back to the Block! Santa whisked him away at Christmas, and the Easter Bunny brought him back today just in time for our PAWS and Applause PAWSitive Panther Pep Session where we recognized our March PAWSitive Panthers for Creativity!

We also welcomed the Air Elite Acrobatic Slam Dunk Team! The defied gravity and mesmerized us with their high flying stunts and dynamic performance! They even got a few staff and students involved in the fun!

Their show was not only about incredible athletic skills, but it also inspired and motivated students by teaching important character traits like teamwork, respect, leadership, responsibility, and a positive attitude. Be sure to check out these pics courtesy of our PAWparrazzi and CAT Cam, and check out tons more in today's photo album!
