PAWS is bananas over his new library station! He is using the word game Bananagrams to encourage students to collaboratively build words. He introduced it this week through our PAWSitive Panther Character Trait for October...KINDNESS!

Fall Picture Day is Monday, October 6!
Second graders completed their first project based learning assignment this week. Students had to research places in a community, form an opinion on which one they deemed the “best”, and write a persuasive paragraph trying to convince their reader to think the same. Mrs. Kitchen’s class put their tech skills to the test and used Canva to create and display their work. We also want to give a shout out to Dalton State College for sending in a video to help us with our research!

Responsibility: Taking Care of Our Devices
This month, we are focusing on the character trait of responsibility—and that includes how we care for and use our school devices!
Students can show responsibility by:
carrying their devices carefully with two hands
keeping food and drinks away from them
charging them at home
bringing them to school everyday
using them only for learning.
By being careful and following expectations, students help keep devices working well for everyone.

City Park Drama Club is excited to announce that this year’s school play production of Imagine a Dragon will be open to all students in grades 1 through 5!
Rehearsals will begin on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 7:30-8:00 in the Chorus Room.
Students will go to breakfast after rehearsal. Auditions for specific roles will take place once students have learned the songs.

Mrs. Gray's kindergarten scientists explored motion last week! They used a "crane" to test pushes and pulls, figuring out how much force was needed to knock down a wall without knocking down the houses.
Students in drama class have been learning about Hispanic Heritage Month with Ms. Vasquez. They learned what Hispanic Heritage Month is and why it is celebrated. Students then had time to research their own culture so they could create an informative presentation about it. Their presentations will include information about food, dance, art, and demographics.
PAWS gets super excited when students transfer their learning! These kindergartners visited the library earlier this week as part of their project based inquiry. During their regular library visit, PAWS found them exploring the artifacts they had learned about previously! They love the fossils we received earlier this year from a grant funded by the Paleontology Association of Georgia and the Toomey Foundation.
Students in Mrs. Ash's and Mrs. Chlebisch’s ELA classes presented their Savvas Week 6 project: a travel brochure.
PAWS is always on the lookout for students who make PAWSitive choices! This group of students visited our book vending machine today as a reward for being positive upstanders in our school community!

PAWS is excited to share that the City Park Media Center was awarded a grant for instruction from the Dalton Education Foundation! The grant, titled Block Party at the 405, helped to purchase a LEGO My World set from LEGO Education. This particular set was purchased to go along with the Kindergarten Savvas unit about community. Students enjoyed using the blocks to try to create some of the people and places they have been learning about!

Students in 2nd grade drama class are learning about Hispanic Heritage Month. They created a symbol inspired of the independence of Mexico.
Kickin' It Safely in PE
Wearing the right shoes is a big part of keeping kids safe and successful in P.E.! Proper athletic shoes give students the support they need to run, jump, and play without slipping or getting hurt.
Shoes that stay securely on the feet — like sneakers with laces or Velcro — help prevent trips and falls.
Sandals, boots, Crocs, or flip-flops can make it hard to participate fully and safely.
Please help your child be ready for P.E. by sending them in comfortable, well-fitting athletic shoes on P.E. days. The right footwear helps your child do their best and stay injury-free!
Ms. Gomez's third grade class participated in a cookie excavation where students used toothpicks to carefully “excavate” the chocolate chips without breaking the cookie!
They compared this to paleontologists carefully removing fossils from rocks using their tools.
