The deadline for our third grade students proof of residency (home address) has been extended!

In Mr. Allred’s science class, students are learning about classification of biotic and abiotic organisms. Students researched different organisms from simple, single-celled creatures to complex creatures consisting of eukaryotic cells. They are considering vertebrates and invertebrates, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and then further classifying them into groups based on various phenotypes. They love learning and sharing what they know!

Weather Monitoring Update from Dalton Public Schools:
Due to safety concerns related to Tropical Storm/Hurricane Helene, Dalton Public Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday, September 26th and 27th. This includes the cancellation of all extracurricular activities scheduled for those days. The decision was made in collaboration with local safety agencies to ensure the well-being of our students, staff, and community.
Dalton High Homecoming Activities Adjusted:
•Parade: The Dalton High homecoming parade will be rescheduled to take place on Saturday, September 28th at 9:00 AM.
•Football Game: The homecoming football game will now be held on Saturday at 12:00 PM, with the homecoming court presented at halftime.
•Homecoming Dance: The homecoming dance will proceed as planned on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
Additional information, including details about the parade route and a parade route map, will be shared soon.
We will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide any further updates through our communication channels. Thank you for your understanding and support as we prioritize the safety of everyone in our schools.
For additional information on how decisions are made regarding weather and safety, please visit our website: https://dhs.daltonpublicschools.com/page/weather-and-closings.
DPS Staff – Please keep an eye out for upcoming communication from your school principal regarding your plans.

On September 30th, DPS will proudly participate in GA Reads Day, a celebration of reading across the state. This year, we’re inspired by Georgia’s reading coach, Malcolm Mitchell, who not only overcame literacy challenges but also became a star football player, an author of children's books, and the founder of the Share the Magic Foundation.
PAWS will celebrate with a Reading Rally assembly for the entire school at 9:00 AM. Students are asked to wear their favorite Georgia gear--this can include professional or college sports teams, Georgia destinations, Dalton gear, or even their favorite Peanuts gang gear! We will all turn the page to a brighter future as we read for 26 minutes on this day in honor of Malcolm Mitchell’s UGA jersey number!

On Friday, October 25, 2024 from 5:30-7:30 PAWS will host a fun family fundraiser and math family night called Block Party @ the 405! We will have a cake walk and candy giveaways for some of our activities. Donations of wrapped candy, wrapped snack cakes, and wrapped cookies would be much appreciated (no nut products). Donations will be accepted in the front office until Thursday, October 24. Please contact Hannah Talley at hannah.talley@dalton.k12.ga.us with questions!

Check out this week's edition of the Panther Press Newsletter! We have many exciting things happening at City Park!

In honor of Homecoming week, PAWS will be offering a facepainting fundraiser starting Monday, September 23. Starting on Monday, students may stop by the library throughout the day for a cat themed face paint design. Each design is $1; we ask for exact change and no large bills. Proceeds will go toward decor and items for our assemblies and events this school year.
